mock tudor board replacing
I just had one of the timber tudor boards in the front of my house replaced. It is the long, horizonal one in the photo. After the work was done, I found that the board actually consists of two separate boards. I think that they ordered one big board and I don't understand why they had to cut it in half to fit on the wall. The workman explained that there is a "channel" in the middle for draining water. However, I don't see there is any big gap for passing water.
Is he telling the truth?
Thanks for any advice.

I have to say that is a bit of a bodge, they could have used similar screw covers to the existing. I would spend a bit of time running exterior frame sealant in all the upper facing joint lines to prevent water getting behind.

thanks for your reply.
My after thought: Could it be that they may not have the board of right length and yet they don't want to come back on another day, so they fit 2 shorter ones together?

It might be that he could not get the length of timber required for a continuous run. I depends what the timber yard had in stock and there is a genuine supply shortage of timber at present.

Not sure if it's my old eyes but the piece of timber to the left looks likes dressed timber and the one to right is rough-sawn..

No, don't believe that excuse but well done that man for thinking it up on the spur of the moment!
Is OP sure it was all replaced, not just the piece on the left? The right hand side looks original pattern timber & does not have the same method of fixing (though not the fake pegs). Are other properties in the street similar? (i.e. no pegs in bottom rail?)

The dummy pegs would not be difficult to replicate, even after the event, but were they there before.........dewaltdisney wrote: ↑Sun Aug 08, 2021 9:13 am ... they could have used similar screw covers to the existing.
