Me being a cheapskate do not use out of date plaster

So this one is on me
I had a smallish job on a property I am working on (I own the property, so no client involved)
Just a quick plaster skim over a boarded-up doorway. I am not a plasterer by any means but it's not so hard on small spaces
I wouldn't tackle a whole room. Plaster was 6 months past its use-by date so I was aware of a short window of time to use the product once mixed up.
I was thinking 15mins or so. Plaster mixed up lovely, soft, and creamy. I went for a pee, came back and the whole bucket was a solid lump.

For those that come after, just throw out-of-date plaster in the skip.

I will be going forward

Did that as a young lad many years ago except the plaster had been in the garage over a year!

I was mixing it and suddenly couldn't move the paddle anymore

I just managed to get away with it on a small patch I did with an old bag of plaster. I made it up really wet and slapped it on immediately to a well soaked wall area. The first smoothing stroke went well but it became stiff and unworkable very quickly despite spraying water on the surface. It was off in a minute but I had managed to get it on. Thankfully it was a small foot square area and I half expected it to craze and crack but it didn't. I sanded it over and made good with Easifill. I never did it again but I was lucky.

A merchants had a few pallets of not long out if date gear in the spring. Lad in yard told me would be 20 quid a pallet and we had big job on so took sample bag. Was ok so called them up to arrange to have a pallet. Manager said sorry don't know why has told you 20 quid it's only a month or so out of date. He wanted near enough new money so I left it we kept getting our plaster from usual different merchant. Those pallets were in there for months afterwards. Nobody wanted it at new money. Honestly he must of had to chuck it in their skip by time our job was done. Idiot.

i mixed a bucket of it up once. half way through mixing it the drill started to struggle. so i added a bit more water.... few seconds later the bucket was spinning on the end of the drill haha

Sometimes handy to have a wee bit out of date Easifil for small nail holes and one off small fills, goes off fast enough to sand & paint more or less immediately

Can go either way multi finish when out of date I've had it go the other way when it stayed soft pretty much all day and trowels up horrible!

I used easifill that I've easily had in a sealed tub for over a year. I used it last week and it worked out ok. I thought I'd have the same problems as you.
