Drilling thick cast iron plate

Done. Couldn't believe that the holes lined up perfectly first time as marking them wasn't easy. Biggest challenge was clamping the cast iron plate to the table of the drill as I was drilling the top surface so it was resting on the socket for the post.

The drill itself is excellent and I'm really happy with it. Couldn't believe how accurate the laser was and how it went through the cast iron like a hot knife through butter.

As an aside, you can get "transfer punches" for either plain or threaded holes

Makes the job easier, but probably too expensive for a "one off"
Might help somebody else though.
