Screwdriver with Spring Attachment

Post by ugoleaf »

Hello,

I have this screwdriver and never understood what spring attachment is for. Is it for grabbing screws when unscrewing?

It's for holding a screw in place on the driver so you can position it if the access is awkward.

Nowadays you can magnetise or de-magnetise a screwdriver using one of these https://www.toolstation.com/wera-star-m ... zer/p98358

I went to do that the other day.
Stainless steel screw! :wtf: :-)
And of course it was a crosshead. I've got one of those double ended screw starter things where the blade is in two parts, and the two parts twist to hold the screw, but never had much luck with crossheads TBH.

I just attach a set of neodymium magnets to a screwdriver...

I find that depending on the length of the screw it can be hit or mis

Same here.
They may or may not work in a particular situation, but at least you have them there to try.
The best thing to do is to avoid the need for screw extractors in the first place by having the right screwdrivers.

London mike 61, Dave54 I assume that screwdriver extractor bits purchased from AE are not the same as those purchased from Home Depot or Amazon quality-wise?

I’ve also got a small set of left handed drill bits to help remove screws, but unused as yet.
I got them with a set of cobalt drill bits that I bought at a ideal home exhibition a few years ago.

Same here. Unless they're from a quality maker, then quality is always an unknown.
I've got tools that were bought simply because they looked OK and were too cheap to miss that are great, and others that have disappointed.
An example are those screwdriver sets I said about from Poundland. They've been great so far for the small, non crucial stuff I've used them for.
