Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

i'm a member/moderator/admin of various forums (excel, technical, photography +many others) , and so often you see questions raised, and when answered you never get a reply from the OP _ i suspect they may have posted on various forums and had an answer ,

I can understand people joining and reading the forum, or searching and subscribing maybe to a few posts, but never posting.

Lurkers - every forum has them. I 'lurk' on Youtube, gathering info and knowledge on subjects that interest me but have had no desire to join but as b-a points out, SOME forums are welcoming and friendly with a wide selection of 'personalities' that make it like old fashioned smokey pubs!

UHM is that pub for me - and I'd buy everyone a drink if it was physical! Well, most members.......
Don't take it personally......

Blimey, that screen shot brings back some memories!

It was around 2004 when I decided to start a website, I used to spend hours messing about making boxes and clickable “framed pictures”. The only problem was that I made every single page from one original page by renaming the page, this was working well until there were over 400 pages on the site, then it became a nightmare to change something on every single page of the site.

A few years back I got a CMS (content management system) installed, but that itself is problematic and needs updating (and sometimes stops working). It took a very long time to recreate every page in the CMS. The forum was pretty much the easiest part of the site, although I don’t update it anymore, I leave that to David IQ. I used to update the forum myself, but I used to edit the code live and one time, it went wrong, which meant I had to delete the forum and start it again  (that could explain why the first forum post is June 2005).

Hopefully the site will continue, until it is no longer viable, or until the tech giants that run the internet or governments legislate it, out of business. In 2004 we seemed to have more freedoms and less bureaucracy than we have now.

I used to enjoy making websites and have probably made over 20 of them for friends etc. But it became burdensome when websites had to be responsive, so that they would work on any screen, tablet, or mobile phone.

I owe massive thanks to all of the forum members, who make the forum what it is. The moderators do a fantastic job of sorting out any trouble and some of the members are incredibly helpful :thumbright:
