Old style rubbish bin storage doors!

Post by Fazel76 »

I know this sounds stupid - but i have been searching everywhere to find replacements for the old wooden gate doors on the brick bin storage unit outside victorian style houses. their about 3 or 4 ft tall. do i/expert have to make them? or is there a name for them that I am missing which will make my search for ready made ones easier? please help! thanks

Ledge and braced door

or

framed Ledge and braced door

And I think you will need to make them your self using 15mm thick match boarding and Ex 150 x 25 for the ledges and braces, due to them not being a standard height.

Sorry but I don’t know the standard widths the match boarding comes in, but know doubt another member can tell that.

would avoid the diy sheds like the plauge as doors need stable wood
any twist bow cup will throw the door out of square

go to a wood yard not only will the wood be better quality rather than come up as 18mm it will be 22mm and more likly fit into the frame fitted

There may be an alternative style of gate; a slated ledge and brace gate. This type of gate as gaps between each slate thus allowing the wind to pass through it a lot easier it also allow good ventilation if used to enclose a bin store etc.

Have a look at the drawing it just may be of help if not a lot.
