Thanks I did go for 13A fuse in the end. And the socket is now up and running. A small job by most people's standards but I'm still very pleased with myself. I will probably take the cover off the fused outlet and shorten the cables with new found stripping tips!

It will cut the outer and the inner sheiths.
But mine is a lidl / aldi set which are half the cost but decent quality.

I normally leave a cm or so but it depends on the depth of the backbox
