Plaster coming off around window

Post by Beckybee98 »

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a flat and need to do some DIY. One of the jobs was to remove the stained strips around the window but I've been left with holes and gaps in the plaster but I'm not sure what to do. I was planning on replacing the strips but any ideas how I can fix the holes/ plaster.

Thank you in advance

Plaster coming off around window

Welcome to UHM Beckybee98!

First, perhaps you could post a picture of the strips? When you say replace them, do you mean refit the old ones or fit new replacements?

Are they (were they) quarter-round (they're called "beads") or were they flat "fillets"? You say they were "stained", suggesting they're made of wood - but the window is white plastic. Didn't stained wood look a bit odd? Replace them with white plastic - it's cheap, we'll help you source them and tell you how to fit.

If this turns out to be the solution, then obtaining a plastic strip a little wider than the old ones will cover the damaged plaster and so don't need your question answered.

If you still want an answer, then you get some "interior filler" - you can get small tubs of ready-mixed - and smooth it over the damage with a flat filling knife. Sand it down smooth and it will be ready for repainting.

The bead along the bottom may need a different sort of attention.
