Paving slabs in Front of Shed

Post by newdud »

Hello

I have some paving slabs that were laid about 15 years ago. Pic included.
As you can see it is a state of disrepair and I would like to tidy it up again.

How best to do it ?

Do I dig it up flatten and relay on soil or do I put some sort of hardcore down on top ?

I would like to make it look neat

How do I ensure that the slabs do not move again :dunno:

I would look at This place
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

 If gloom had a voice, it would be me.

I’m going to assume that you are going to reuse the existing slabs which are a mish mash of broken whole slabs of different sizes.
So I would take them up and dig the site to a depth of around 5 or 6 inches and start with a good layer of type 1 mot ( which is crushed concrete ) then cover that with enough sharp sand to just about cover the chippings. On top of that layer put a weed suppressing landscape membrane then a layer of sharp sand to lay the slabs on but in a crazy paving pattern. Fill the gaps with a 5 to 1 sharp sand /cement mix not too wet.

Or you could scout around your neighbourhood for skips with discarded bricks and omit the sharp sand layer and lay the bricks on a bed of mortar in a pattern of choice.
