Mk1 Focus - where are the electrical earth points?

Post by pjontheroadagain »

Could anyone tell me the location of the various electrical earth points on a MkI Ford Focus?

The gauges in my car read very erratically, which I’m told could be down to bad earth connections.

I’ve found three in the engine bay and I think there are two more on the cabin side of the sills.

Are there any more I’ve missed – particularly any that might be affected by water spray underneath the car?

(My attempt to hose off the salt underneath really upset the gauges!)

Thanks all

I do not know the answer to your question but check out the rear lights. The Focus has a leak issue into the rear quarter panel and one cause can be a breeched light seal. This can lead to contact corrosion, and the fact you were spraying up the wheel arches might indicate an issue in this area. Worth checking, take the inside quarter trim panel off in the boot and check it is dry.

Dash earth points are usually on the A pillars behind the kick panels the passenger side is prone to water leaks due to the scuttle/ cabin filter on the mk1 and 1.5

Gauge clusters are prone to fail due to age and heat, also check and clean the plug and socket on the gauge cluster
