Radiator with Terrier TRV

Post by DarthCheddar »

Hello
I'm wanting to remove and replace a radiator with an old style Pegler Terrier trv.
I've noticed the trv didn't have a '0' setting. So I bought a range of brass end caps to help close the valve. But I've found none of the caps are deep enough to reach the screw thread of the valve.
I've looked around and can't find any caps that look deep enough to help. It's there any gizmo or technique you'd recommend I try instead? I'm a complete noob and really don't want to try draining the whole system.
Thanks.

Does it have 5-4-3-2-1-❄- and then it will turn two clicks further in a blank blue window? All TRVs have a positive 'off' setting, the Pegler I've just looked at in my junk box doesn't have a zero setting. (❄=snowflake)

Otherwise, you could get a large "jubilee" clip, unscrew it all the way until it comes apart, wrap it round the valve with part over the valve pin, then tighten it up so that the pin is compressed.
