A 'scam' that works on OUR behalf!

If you are currently on a monthly energy payment scheme and have to MANUALLY forward your meter reading every month then take the opportunity TODAY to enter a reading that is HIGHER than that you have ACTUALLY used.....

e.g if your reading is 10,000 tell them it's 11,000 and you'll be billed the extra 1,000 units at the OLD price. If you leave it a month and report the extra 1,000 units you'll be billed at the NEW price.

We're trying to do this as I write - but, surprise, surprise, the energy sites are 'experiencing high demand' and we can't log on!

Martin Lewis (Money saving expert) mentioned that 2 days ago, he pointed out that it would be fraud. Today he said that you can send your meter reading in tomorrow, also he suggested take a picture of your meter reading, as some suppliers will accept that, also if you email it to yourself the email is proof when you took the picture.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

I had to email Octopus as I couldn't log on. I didn't exaggerate the reading though. I thought about it but for some reason didn't.

Incidentally, every time you hear a Tory MP saying that there is no alternative to higher bills, remember that energy firms have paid out £200 BILLION to shareholders since 2010.

kellys_eye, Only if you are on a standard variable rate (capped) I'm still on a fix paying

Lecky 22.83 Kwh standing charge 24.11 vs new cap

Lecky 28.46 Kwh standing charge 43.39

Gas 6.71 Kwh standing charge 26.10 vs new cap

Gas 7.48 Kwh standing charge 27.22

also don't over exaggerate your readings, the supplier knows your expected usage give or take.

you can do it with a prepayment meter as you are using as designed
you can do it by giving a false reading but thats fraud by false representation
now iff you give a frequent reading say monthly you may get away say 5-10% over reading but any more will be flagged up even iff you get away with it this month next month they will just generate a more accurate amended new back dated bill
sssssooooo
i have over estimated by 50 units off each and next month will overestimate by 25 units then back to actual at third reading so more a wave in use rather than ben nevis
will i get away with it ---- probably not
am i worried -----no i misread the meter
but on a nother note because we have had such warm weather consumption has been down this month so worked out the 50 units probably wont show as "abnormal"

That might be the case but if the suppliers charge you at the new rate for electricity you used at the OLD rate then they are also acting 'illegally' - profiteering.

Personally I see no difference in what I'm suggesting to that of filling your tank with petrol before the Chancellor jacks up the duty - we've all done it!

It's not unusual that the system is designed to favour THEM and disadvantage US.

the actual offence off fraud by false representation is knowingly giving misleading information
charging you the higher rate is not the same as they made reasonable guess and invite you to fine tune with your input by taking a reading

If you're on a smart meter, doesn't apply anyway? Readings automatic.

Spare a thought for us with oil heating, the price we pay when we need to refill the tank is the price that day. It might be cheaper tomorrow, who's to know. And who was to know to brim the tank in February......

EON website wrote:Sorry, we're experiencing higher than usual levels of website traffic.

If you're having trouble logging in to your account, don't worry, you have until 9 April to give us your meter readings online for 31 March. Smart meter customers don't need to do anything as your readings will automatically be shared with us.

We were sent text message asking for meter reading, but the site would not accept the meter reading, and some one came to read the meter manually, then another text message asking for meter reading, not a clue who we are with now, the one we signed up with went to the wall, we were not allowed to select a replacement.
