The 2nd episode of Staircase is holding my attention as it has introduced the documentary being made within the story as well. It is actually quite good.

Wrath of Man with Jason Statham on Prime. A rather far fetched revenge film that I stuck with but decided on balance it was silly. Typical Statham film so I should have known.

Yes, in a way I did. I think his very glum monosyllable grunts, whether called for in the script or just him, are very annoying.

Just finished The Staircase, I am not sure if I enjoyed it or not. After seeing this, the Netflix documentary, and another documentary that Mrs D watched I think in my mind he did kill her. The bloke is a shifty mofo and his stupid no-hoper kids were very annoying. If he was in the UK he would have been out in 12 years as it is he served 16 and then got released on an Alford plea. You cannot see any motive as the deceased was a cash cow for him to loaf around doing what he wanted rather than working and his kids were as bad by being a drain on resources. Her income was jeopardised when Nortel went through a downturn.

I am sure a few of you may have watched it but I could not get past the fact that the bloke just came across as guilty.

We started watching the staircase last night. Just the first episode so far. We'll stick with it as it seems to be recommended here but frankly I found it wasn't grabbing my attention. I don't mind slow burners but this seemed really ponderous. I'm not a big fan of programmes that constantly switch timelines but can live with it but I think my biggest gripe is the characters. I don't find any of them engaging or convincing as yet. Mrs G thought it was ok so we'll keep watching it and I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Another film I watched yesterday was shown on BBC4 a little while ago , it's French and called La Belle Epoque. The story involves a cartoonist who's wife leaves him . Their son runs an "immersive experience" company which is a sort of Westworld but with actors rather than robots and people can choose to go where they want. The cartoonist chooses 1974 when he met his wife and the title of the film refers to the cafe they met in. He starts to fall in love with the actress playing his young wife to be and that ultimately impacts on reality. Interesting concept and kept me watching but overall fits in here rather than the other two threads.

Well last night there not being much on we thought we'd continue with the Staircase. Wife put netflix on and we started to watch it. It seemed somewhat disjointed and it took a little while to realise that we were watching the "wrong" version. We'd actually started to watch the sky version with Colin Firth as the husband. Changed to the sky version and watched a couple of episodes although we're still not sure about it. Still fliting around timeline wise and still quite slow as well.

Yes, it is confusing with flashbacks and hard to follow at times. The Netflix original documentary was boring and we never got past episode 1. The Sky Colin Firth Staircase was a struggle at times and I think on balance it is a Not Worth a Watch.

Snowflakes on a Mountain just out on Netflix looked funny but it will wear thin quickly I feel. The idea is a group of snowflake millennials are tricked into being dumped in the wilds and have to fend for themselves. As expected they whine and moan but it all came across a little too staged in some respects. They are told that there is £50k to win but the pot will reduce by £5k each time one of them gives up and leaves. Still, the first episode is quite amusing and we may look at another but it does not have legs. I would have preferred to see them under Ant Middleton in the SAS camp.

Watched the film Franklyn last night . It was on film 4 this week. Described as a fantasy it revolves around a small number of characters in modern day london and a fantasy city called Meanwhile. The characters seem to have similar parallel lives and several actors play a couple of roles each. They do eventually come together but it takes a while which I'm sure would put a lot of people off and the ending seems a little disappointing. Seems a good idea but just doesn't quite deliver.

We watched a film on Netflix I think called Spiral. It starred Chris Rock and Samuel L Jackson so we thought we will give it a go. It was extremely grizzly and I found out afterwards that it was part of the Saw films franchise, which I have never seen. On reflection it was just a gore fest and the main premise is daft. I am not sure if I liked it or not, certainly not enough to make it worth a watch recommendation.
