Hi my c180 ignition problems when I start the engine the ignition runs on for a few seconds after the car has started, anyone got a solution other than taking it to a Mercedes garage. Car is 10 years old

Do you mean the starter motor?

Invariably the starter spinning on means a new starter motor. After market copies are around £120 but you can buy a used one from a car breaker cheaper. Reasonably easy to do, check out you tube videos on method.

DWD good thinking, and I do believe the starter solenoid can be changed separately, if it is not s sticking ignition switch.

Ignition problem on Mercedes’ c180

Hi once again thought it might be the starter motor but it only does it when first started I assume that’s when the oil pressure is low and then its ok for the rest of the day. I had the timing chain replaced 2 years ago and it’s only done 8000 miles since. I’m hoping that is not the chain again. I would have though it a new timing chain would not make a noise after such a short time, got any ideas?

Your diagnosis of the noise is too imprecise to narrow it down to the real issue. You need someone who knows about cars to have a listen and get the fault identified.

I’m trying but the earliest they can have a look is another 10 days as they want me to leave it overnight so they can have a listen.
Thanks for giving me your time much appreciated

It would only need a basic mechanic to listen, not a Merc dealership.
