Assembling stairs

Post by Ferny1 »

Hi all
I have a small argument on site and just wondering what your thoughts are. So what glue is the correct type to assemble stairs with, I would use D4 expanding floor adhesive because when dry you have less chance of squeaking but apparently its got to be pva.

Assembling stairs

I have only seen PVA used in the past but I suspect there are better glues available these days. I would think that polyurethane foaming glue is not used as it might push the treads out of their seatings in the stringer housings. having said that, I have used it in clamped up cabinet assembly with no issues. Another point is time for the setup and PVA gives you a long time to get the staircase assembled and clamped up.
