Post by peek188 »

Hi all.
Im doing home renovation and i haven’t encountered any problems till now. Im taking off wallpaper in my bedroom anu under that is old damaged crooked wall(see on photos, still wallpaper bottom on it but removing today). What you would do? Fill holes and cracks with bonding/joint compounds and skimm walls to flat them or new plaster?. And can anyone recommend me what to do with that angle bead. What is method to remove this wooden one and put metal instead. Thank you for help

What to do with this wall?

Pretty much, strip it, then 2 coats of 3-1 pva in the voids, bond out to flat. Then another 2 coats 3-1 PVA and skim. Bit of scrim over any big cracks for good measure.

I'd not worry about the angle bead honestly.

I'm on a similar project currently. 1901 build and the walls are trash under the paper - bits coming off the lath and all sorts, a good plasterer can skim a reasonably uneven wall but it's the big variations and the voids you need to bond out to flat - anything over about 5mm
