Timber column supporting RSJ

Post by rzorrz »

Hi,
I am a builder. I installed 2 RSJ eternal one is on the masonry wall but have a problem with internal wich is a timber frame construction (89mm CLS).
SE designed timber column supporting RSJ but didn't make any drawing and I am not sure how to do it.

For each column Use 4NO 100mm x50mm C24 vertical with studding at 400mm.
depth of section 97mm
width of section 200mm

Does that mean I have to nail together a 2 lengths of timber repeat the step with another two and nail such a structure to the existing frame and osb boards?
Such a column would have a dimension:
depth 90mm + osb 9mm
width 190mm

"with studding at 400mm." - does it mean nailing every 400mm to the osb?

Thanks

I do not know the correct way to do it and if I was in your position I would call in the Council Building Inspector and ask what he wants. As it is a structural job the BI will have to sign it off so I think that is your best action before proceeding.
