Is social media making us sheep?

Post by Someone-Else »

I often wonder is social media turning us into sheep? (One does something, so everyone else follows)

Case in point:

The other day, on Facebook it came up with "Today is "Moderator" * Birthday, wish them well.

The number of people that posted happy birthday Moderator was considerable, but here lies the "crunch" moderator stopped posting on Facebook 3 years ago. Moderator told me in person why they were going to stop posting (3) years ago, all anyone had to do was to look to see when that last post was made, but no, people blindly posted, so my question is are you a sheep? have you posted a comment because you saw a comment or added a like just because you were notified?

* I used moderator as a neutral name.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

Everyone has a bloody angle now and the sheep follow whatever it is. Look at those utterly useless influencer tw*ts you see on YouTube. I tend to look at the Yahoo news clips and decide more about the writer's slant than what they are saying. Most of it is fiction, speculation, or a poor interpretation of events. I wonder if they get paid on click rate so they are over sensationalising to get the clicks?

There is no validity in any news these days

No, but more than once I have seen people post something like "Happy birthday, hope you are well!" message on the Facebook profile of someone who had died.

If I see a "Today is So-And-So's birthday" prompt I will, if I like that person, have a quick look on their profile (if that is what it is called) to a) make sure they are still alive and b) see what they've been up to recently, and then I will send them an inbox message wishing them a happy birthday and mentioning something I have seen on the profile. I usually get a very pleasant message back and we usually spend a little while swapping messages.

Why?

FYI I do not use twitter, but I saw a person on Youtube saying he had a problem with "something*" and the manufacturer of the something got in touch, so to me that is a good thing.

* As a YT viewer we all saw the "something" and what the problem was, and the company who made it. But its one of those things you either like it or you don't.
