Wi-Fi problem
Hi I have TalkTalk fast fibre and the speed in the room where the router is 75m on my iPad but the reading on my desktop in the next room is only 20m, is there any device I can purchase to increase the speed to my desktop computer, my iPad has the same reading in both rooms.
Could contact TalkTalk I suppose but don’t want to purchase something from them that does not make it better.
Wondering if someone can recommend a good solution?

No expert, but I don't think this is an internet supplier problem if you are running the likes of Ookla and using the same Server Centre! likely your iPad has a better wifi module than your PC; my PC on Ethernet is the same as it gets on wifi (13 year old build) 74/18Mbps, but my old (19yrs) laptop gets much lower Download on wifi 49/17Mbps in same room, but on Ethernet same, my conclusion my laptop wifi module is inferior .

Have a look at TP link range extenders they use household wiring to link from the router to the PC. About £30 a pair at Argos.

I am with aeromech3 on this. If your iPad shows the same in both rooms it can't be the signal, but must be your desktop, or what is receiving the signal. (Wi-fi dongle?) As its only in the next room can you not run an ethernet cable from your router to your desktop? You only have to plug it in at both ends

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

That's what the TP links do it creates an ethernet link direct router to the computer using the house electric wiring system.

The TP link probably does as you say, but if he has a "not so good" wifi receiver in his desktop the TP link would be a waste of time (as proven by his iPad) an ethernet cable would be much better, and cost less £7.50 Argos click here or £6 ebay (lots of sellers)

Buy a long cat 5 cable and see how that improves things.
I’m a fan of Dovolo adapters - the handy “cockpit” tool you get allows you to see the speeds between the different extenders. Use the hard wired units too

You are missing my point SE the connection is ethernet cable into Tp link, down household electrcity wires to next Tp link ethernet cable from Tp to the PC so it emulates a continuous ethernet connection.

Oh, I see.
Let me see if I have this right.
The kit you speak of costs £30 (Argos, no worries there.)
They must be on the same circuit (You would hope not a problem if he is in the next room)
They shouldn't but can suffer mains interference
They are not as fast as an ethernet cable
The kit you mention only has one cable, TWO cables are required, one for each end
A 10 M long ethernet cable can be had for £6
Sorry, I am trying to understand why you would spend £30 more on something that is not as good as a cheaper option, and no emulation what so ever, and you still need to buy a second ethernet cable
But then its not my money.

This might just be due to the wifi "card" in your PC. I had the same issue before and got an external USB wifi connector - something like this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-WN8 ... B0088TKTY2.
It fixed my problem. I suppose it depends if you've got an old desktop.

Wi-Fi problem
WiFi cards in most laptops are poor because the aerial is concelled deep inside usually.
I was getting great speeds on my phone but my laptop right next to it was less than half that. I bought an external WiFi dongle with a large aerial on it specifically marketed for getting better signal. Only cost me about a tenner and now my laptop gets a speed that pretty much matches my phone. Well worth it.
