I have a plentival supply of good quality wooden pallets.
Many pieces benefit from the nails being removed completely.
This is done at the moment with a claw or by hammering out.
I’ve recently seen pneumatic nail extractors
I have a suitable air compressor
Do these machines deliver the goods?
If so:
Which to buy at what price and from which supplier?
Many thanks

I had a few pallet type box sections used for shipping glass given to me so there were some good lengths of timber. It was really hard getting the nails out, they were strange double headed things. I lost the will to live stripping the wood. I ran them through my planer thicknesser and the wood was just quick grown fibrous stuff not useful for anything decent. I think I ended up using it for concrete shuttering. I never bothered again.

Many thanks for that reply. Some of the pallet wood I get is only just worth burning, other is ok for fencing after treating with my special brew, other is top quality suitable for internal (house) use.
As a matter of interest, as you have sound judgment in these matters. Which planer-thicknesses do you use, please?
Do PM me if I’m going Off Topic with that question.
Regards.

I don't have them now but I had a Fox 12" thicknesser and a 6" Nu Tool planer jointer, you need both so I would recommend a combo machine that has a dual use of the cutting block to do both (I think Big All has one?) They are not cheap now though and a combo can work out at £350 but having said that the 12" thicknesser alone is £400. Keep an eye on Gumtree and eBay. I used to prepare a lot of hardwood for my projects as it was cheaper to buy whole boards and machine them to my needs. This is an example of mine https://www.robertdyas.co.uk/lumberjack ... -%20Medium these are generic machines that are all the same and badgedd up in the livery of various
makes. This is a combo machine https://www.screwfix.com/p/scheppach-hm ... lsrc=3p.ds
I hope this helps

As luck might have it I made this for a friend a few weeks ago. Mine cost £80 I think but I bought a cheaper one at £50. I returned the £50 the same day it arrived because it took over 3 weeks to arrive by which time my arse was making buttons so I bought the £80 one which arrived the following day.
90% of the time the nails shoot right hence why I had the wood over a wheelie bin.
I can't speak for its longevity but it's been great so far.
Rag n bone man on YouTube put me on to it.
