Makita Cordless Biscuit Joiner

I have a £120 voucher to spend at Screwfix. I thought I'd treat myself to a DeWalt biscuit joiner but they only sell the Makita cordless. I do have a couple of Makita batteries and charger so might opt for that. Does anyone own the Makita one? If so what do they think of it?

I bought a cheapo Ferm corded biscuit jointer from Screwfix about 15 years ago. It has given good service and is still going well when needed, I have never changed the blade. I used mine mostly for joining boards into tabletops and panels. Of course, you need a jointer to get the faces square before biscuit joining.

Have a think about this https://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-ttb579 ... 230v/15774 I think you would get more use out of it than a biscuit joiner. You will then have the ability to prepare your own stock.

DW I think you're getting confused with a Jointer/planer mate.

No, you need both. You need to have properly thicknessed and faced boards to join with the biscuits into a wide board. Otherwise you may as well just get a Kreg pocket hole jig.

I track saw would do the same job but I only asked about the biscuit jointer.

I cannot see what use you would get out of a biscuit jointer? A track saw does not thickness. I will not go on any more about it as you have clearly thought through what it will do for you. I was only sharing my use if a Biscuit Jointer to help.

I don't need to thickness. I just want to join two pieces of wood together at 90 degree angles from time to time when on site to avoid any screw holes etc. I have a DeWalt thicknesser anyway. Say for instance if I'm boxing in pipes but want to avoid any holes. I can use biscuits and glue everything in place.

No idea why you're going down the Jointer/Planer rabbit hole

Handy if I need to join several pieces of wood to make a table but that's not what it's for.

I misunderstood your need, I imagined an entirely different scenario of use. It seems an expensive tool for such spartan use, have you seen a Kreg jig

Argyll just get the 4mm cutter with bearing for your 1/4" router. Thats what i do i never use a specific biscuit joiner

Yeah but hate the idea of constantly changing over if I need both.

Realistically its prob better value and more use to buy a second cordless router. I reckon changing bits in them costs me a fair amount of time. Ive seen guys on site with 2 routers to save changing bits

I saw a palm router in Aldi specials for £19.99 the other day.
