Yale lock problem
We have an old Yale type lock where on the inside is a turning knob and a snick which holds the latch in if you want to re-enter without a key. I tried to get in with the key yesterday and couldn't. The key turns in the cylinder but doesn't move the latch. The key also can't be removed from the lock. Turning the knob still retracts the latch & will move the key round. I've tried WD40 & also pressing on the cylinder when removing the key (though the cylinder has virtually no forwards/backwards play). There is another working lock (Chubb) on the door so it's secure but would be nice to get the Yale lock working again.
Any ideas? Grateful for any help / advice. Cheers!

Sometimes it is easier to buy a replacement lock as they are notoriously hard to mess around with but this might give you an idea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ku-iaT5DRU4

Per @dewalt, it will be easier and more cost effective to buy a new lock, sounds like your talking about a night latch, if it is just the barrel that's the issue rather than buying the entire keyset and back body (latch) you would probably get away with the keyset (less than £13) for a yale set
https://www.screwfix.com/p/yale-1109-ni ... 33mm/76160
But can be from as little as £6.23

Not too sure on how secure the cheaper models would be, but you have a choice
If it's a full night latch set you need your looking from £15 (yale start at approx £28)

For what it's worth, WD40 is good, BUT it will (in this case) hold any dust and grime that comes into contact with it, this in turn literally "gums up" any lock, what you should use on any lock is graphite powder Click me in short, never put WD40 on a lock.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

If the key will not come out, likely it is twisted.

Yale lock problem
Thanks all for your helpful suggestions. Looks like the WD40 was a bad move. Live & learn. I attach some more photos & diagnostics for what it's worth. Door may be scrapped by a new owner in next few months so that's a consideration.
If the key is in this position ( door open) and the knob inside is turned anticlockwise the key returns to 12 o'clock (and latch retracts into door). When knob released the key stays at 12 o'clock and the latch springs back out. The key can be moved from 10 o'clock here clockwise to 2 o'clock (other photo) without any resistance and without the latch moving (and also anticlockwise from 2 to 10). It can't be moved to anywhere else outside 10 to 2 o'clock

Yale lock problem
It's a standard Yale latch - remove the latch from the door sometimes the backplate comes loose the means the T shape doesn't pull the nib back
turn the key as you do pull and wiggle, a pair of pliers may help
as above, locks are cheap, make sure you get the correct backset
