I would suggest you try a small area of the fence and see, the reason being it depends how well or not the previous decking oil was absorbed into the fence.

Can Cuprinol Ducksback go over a oil treated fence
havent got a clue
but my shed has been treated by ducks back since new in 2005
now fully new wood but small patches off silicon that doesnt take paint but double coats [daubs off paint] over the silicon sort off gives continuity off surface and probably 8-10 coats 18 years on no flaking but only small areas and no wear but gentle weather exposure its fine how oil and large areas will react i dont know
personally from a fence point off veiw ducks back seals up and no breathing not good for a fence point off veiw as trapped water causes rot

It is water v oil. The Ducksback is a water-based waxy water-repellant finish that lays on the surface of the wood. The deck oil sinks in to preserve and protect. The oil's penetrative nature is a better anti-rot but the waxy finish stops water from soaking in. If the surface of the wood is dry then the waxy finish will stick on okay but if the oil finish is still present on the surface it might be patchy.

Ducksback is good but does not play nicely with other finishes, you will have trouble painting over Ducksback with other finishes, so I suspect it may be a problem over old finishes too unless the old finish has completely worn away.

Thanks guys,
Think I’ll stick to some form of oil treatment.
As previously found years ago, treatments using a latex/waxy finish can peel off if the intended surface does not match.
