Your biggest money saving tip?

Something has to be completely worthless for us to throw it away in our house. Is there any residual value left in it ? Can it be sold , reused , composted or whatever ? We even put a carrier bag of milk bottle tops on ebay and sold them..
Why are milk bottle tops worth money?

Good question. From what we gathered they were used in crafting for kids. My work takes me to a number of properties and it was easy to pick up the bottle tops from the bins. Green , semi skimmed was the most abundant , blue , full fat next and then the red skimmed milk with a handful of yellow and white ones. Funnily enough I spoke to a friend who did similar with beer bottle tops as long as the aren't bent then they too can be sold. To be honest we tried it just to see if they would sell but don't do it on a regular basis...

I was fortunate enough to clear ALL my debts some years ago and have never had a credit card or loan since. The 'freedom' is almost overwhelming plus you learn to spend what you have (cash) wisely.

There's no such thing as 'free' - and I suspect that's also true of so-called cashback schemes. They do say that if you don't know what the product is then YOU are the product.

Good to see you back.

I'm in a similar position. My ex left me in loads of debt that took me 10 years to pay off. The only time I use my CC now is to make big purchases so I know I'm guaranteed with protection from Section 75.

i gone through the "have to make ends meet" use off credit cards not paying off in full
i now do 90% off my shopping with 2 cards asda 1% cash back for all asda shopping and amex on everything else 0.5%' both cards paid automatically in full 2 weeks apart to spread load as railway and state pension are 2 weeks apart

cash back is not the main point as its a small amount its the lack off having to monitor my bank account for non monthly d/d
we are all ------------------still learning

I feel your pain - exactly the same for me. She got the house, I got the debts.

I am not sure how they make their money, I doubt they make any from me though, it's very telling that they refuse to increase my credit limit so I can make more purchases, I am not fussy though, we just use the card for everyday transactions mostly and it's very handy having more than 1 card on the came account, keeps things simple.

Years ago, when I was financially 'stupid' it was very noticeable that the card companies were willing to constantly up my credit limit provided i always made the minimum payment for that month. Probably still the case. The whole banking system relies on debt - keep away from it and the banks are stuffed.
