What stain to use for d-rail fence

Post by Father Ted »

As per the title, I've got a new d-rail fence installed and I would like to get stained before the end of summer.

The fence would be in a fairly exposed area in terms of wind and rain. It is already tanalised.

What should I be using - water or oil based? Any brand recommendations?

Thanks.

I have never bothered treating fences, the wind and sun dry them out, and as long as you seal water traps with a bit of frame sealant (If you can be arsed) it should see the best longevity. The waxy water-based finishes are easy to apply and work to a certain extent. I used Barrettine, a solvent based preserver see https://www.toolstation.com/search?q=ba ... +preserver on some outbuildings and it is good stuff.
