Mix my own concrete for crafts

Post by nyfiken »

Hi! I'm going to start mixing my own concrete for crafts (small trays, trinket dishes, that sort of stuff).
I need a light colour as a base so I'm going to use Snowcrete and silver sand. Can I make it easy for myself and just do a 1:1 mix of snowcrete to sand? Is there anything else I should add?

Thank you!

Water  you can add some glass fibre filaments which will bond the mix better. Vibration is key and if you can fabricate a small vibrating table it will settle the mix in the mould so there are no voids or air trapped.

Dang it, I knew I was missing something
Cheers, I'll look into the glass fibre! So I don't need lime or plasticiser or anything else for it to be hard enough?
That's a great shout, I've got a pair of nifty old eye massager goggles so I'm sure I can craft a vibrating table from that.

I only suggested the filaments as they do use them on ordinary concrete and screed to bind it together for added strength. If you search for fibre reinforcement for concrete you can pick up a 900g pack for £4. I would add it in the likely stress areas when you load up your mould. Come back and show us how you get on. :thumbright:
