Screwfix, but why?😵

Post by Someone-Else »

I pre ordered some bits on line for collection at Screwfix. Short while latter, I get a text, parts ready to collect. I go there, wait by counter that has "Collections" sign above. (Other people are at the other counter ordering what they want) A Screwfix bod walks past (other side of counter) and says "Collection, mate?" so I reply "yes, please" to which he says, "If you log in, your collection will come" (He points behind me) I walk over to a screen on the wall, look, follow instructions (It says to enter order number) so I did. Then I go back to where I was waiting, about 5 minutes later the same bloke comes up to me with some bits (My order) and asks "order number" so I show him (Its on my phone) he then says "OK" and gives me my order.

Why? previously I have gone there, stood by collections and given last 4 digits of order to a Screwfix bod on other side of counter, and I wait not 30 seconds while they grab it off the collections shelf.
I don't see why I need to log in, I am I missing something?
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

I’ve encountered this too. It’s not progress and takes me longer to collect things. Using them less now

This varies between branches. The SF computer check-in went missing for a time in Chelmsford but it is back now. For another branch I use I go to the order counter give the number and a dolt brings it to collections. I never just wait at collections as they ignore you. I find Toolstation more efficient in the main but my custom is driven by stock availability and price. I broke a plastic leaf rake I have had for years and when I looked on SF and TS the offers were far too pricey at £20 to £35 for an adjustable tine rake I wanted. I looked on eBay and got a brand new one for £7.12 exactly what I wanted. It is due for free delivery this Wednesday. Sometimes price takes the sting out of impatience.

What I do now is use my phone and put everything in the basket, then use the QR code which shows on the basket screen. They scan it and go get the stuff. Takes seconds.

Someone got a gold star in Screwfix for suggesting that improvement no doubt!
Probably cost a fortune to install so now they are committed to using it, give it a year or two and some bright spark will suggest just using the counter staff to go and get the pre picked order again!

i just make a list of what i want and go and tell the staff., then ask them to make me a coffee.

same at toolstation.

very rare that i actually go on my phone or whatever and type it all in there and go and wait to collect.

More than likely, one of my early jobs after leaving college was with the Property services agency, basically Govt. estate agents (MOD sites, etc.) to keep up to date with land and livestock prices each of the sites surveyors had to read "Farmers weekly" ... we had 4 surveyors on our site, there were summat like 18 regional offices.

At the time farmers weekly cost about 95 pence each office would get one delivered.

Some bright spark proposed that one copy of said magazine could be circulated between all 18 sites using royal mail saving £££'s per year. They got a bonus for that.

When I pointed out that it cost £ 1.10 to post from one office to another and that it was out of date by the time it arrived I was ignored.
