Cant find this handle/ door closure

Post by Zeuspro »

I don't know if I'm being stupid here, but I cant find any internal door handles that match the ones in my house. The internals on one are broken and they are covered in many layers of gloss, so I want to get replacements

I've included pictures, and they are on every internal door, but I cant find anything that looks similar on Screwfix, B&Q, ironmongery direct or just plain google.

Im guessing there's a special name for them that once you know will make finding them easy. Does anyone know what these are called and where I can get them?

Cant find this handle/ door closure

I think that you will find it hard to find replacement latches like this. These appear to be a cast faceplate with a latch built in, I would say for speed in mounting. The look would suggest they come from a 1950's council house. Obviously your internal doors will have a large cut out and mortice in the door face so replacement will need a lot of making good to fit new latches. This leaves you with possibly trying to repair the latches, they look quite basic. If you have DIY skills and you want to know how to go about filling the holes and fitting more conventional new locks just ask. If you do the ground floor doors you can use the old locks as spares for the upstairs doors.

Yeah that sounds about right being council house doors. Someone must have made them though. I think the issue is the screw inside that holds the handle to the latch has worn the hole wide. The hole on the handle and latch are both smooth but the screw that fell out isn't. The handles are all loose since we moved in, and on this one it now just falls out. Not sure what i can do without re-tapping the holes. Maybe just superglue the screw in.

That door only has a handle on one side, but the others that do have two have a matching handle and faceplate.

Sort of reminds me of a window crank

clean off the paint and see if there is a maker's mark stamped on it
