How to remove shiny marks on wall

Hi, all,

So I used a soap and water mix to get some stains off my wall. It did, but replaced them with a shine, when you look at the wall from an angle, not visible when looking at the wall head on. How do I remove these, please? I tried sugar soap but that was the same result.

Are you sure it is not a silk finish? If it is matt you can get polished areas if it is constantly rubbed by people walking past. Perhaps it is time to rub over with a scotch pad and a couple of coats of decent emulsion like Johnstones Coverplus.

Is there nothing that can be done? I'd rather not have to have the entire room re-painted. The marks are from my cleaning it.

I assume everyone can just do a job themselves which often is not the case if mobility prevents it. It is difficult to see the issue from your photo and I am wondering if it just has to dry more as sometimes an area of plaster can absorb more moisture than other areas. `A better photo might give us an idea.

No, it's completely dried. Those're probably the best photo's I'll get. Like I say, head on, you can't see anything.

This is just the shine from where I cleaned.

Is it the paint that was used? Seems like it shouldn't be impossible to wipe stains off a wall?

Quite possibly, not all emulsions are "washable" especially not retail emulsions.

I think your best bet would be to wash the whole wall...
