Laying a laminate floor in a room with a suspended floor.

Post by safara »

Hiya All :)

I am thinking of laying a laminate floor in a room on the ground floor that has a suspended floor.

What things should I be thinking about?

I have been into the crawlspace underneath and things look dry and there are vents to the outside. Do I need to use an underlay that is breathable (but the laminate floor wont really be...) or use underlay that is a moisture barrier?

Do I need to lay it in a way that might allow easy access to the crawlspace if required? A trapdoor? Some other cleaver way to easily lift some laminate for access?

Do I need to lay in the direction opposed to the floorboards, or with them?

Cheers :)

Opposed, you really need to make sure that the floorboards are completely flat with no bowing or cupping. If there is then you'll need to overboard with ply to get a completely flat surface.

There is a bit of cupping going on here and there.... 5mm ply?

Probably 12 mm to be on the safe side, 5mm will be too flexible not stiff enough
