Do you mean as a batten the whole length of the window? That's how it was before these curtains were installed - installer advised removing the batten as they aren't very fashionable these days! BTW, the curtain track only has brackets at both ends, none in between.

Unless I've misunderstood?
what you think is correct
the good thing about a baton is 50% off the fixings can be carp but the rail wont fall down as long as the loose ones are well spread
also with a plate it will have ends away from the lintel

aaand whilst the person who fitted them is correct they are out off fashion but like most fashions they come and go as people realize what looks best often wont last

Just to let you know what I ended up doing.

Before I embarked on a 4x1 batten, I thought I'd try hollow wall fixings. I knew I'd only be able to use these in the top holes of each bracket because of the void there. So I bought T-Bolts from TS, specifically these:

https://www.toolstation.com/t-bolt-hanging-kit/p75990

I figured I didn't need them for their weight holding capability but more for the fact they splay out and grip the plasterboard behind. I used normal short rawlplugs in the bottom but in effect they don't do much because the T-Bolts grip so tight. I bought the 4 pack because that's the fewest number you can buy apparently.

I think it's been successful but only time will tell obviously. All in all I'm pretty pleased. The only comment I'd make is that the supplied spade bit doesn't cut a very tidy hole. I've seen people on YouTube say it's better to use a hole cutter but I was a cheapskate and didn't bother. I would in future.

Probably superfluous to the question now asked but, previously, when hanging (lightweight) blinds or a pole for net curtains, I have successfully achieved such by drilling for a 10mm wooden dowel, securing with PVA glue [and allowed to go off] and then screwing into the centre of the dowel.

For plasterboard, I've always found such as Rawlplug DRA02 Metal Self Drill Plasterboard Fixing 4.5 x 32mm https://www.toolstation.com/rawlplug-dr ... oppingfeed to be very effective.

In fact, I have had a bookshelf support system attached to a Paramount partition with the nylon variant and nothing has moved in 25 years, in spite of the weight.
