I've been watching Dean Doherty on YouTube recently. He repairs power tools.

What surprised me the most was poor quality components in some so called high quality power tools. He slated one Milwaukee tool lately while praising a Skil power drill.

Does anyone else watch him?

I have my favourite channels I watch, mostly car salvage rebuilds and anything I spot that is interesting. YouTube is my go-to for How to do something I am unfamiliar with. For years, I have bought cheap-to-chuck tools, but surprisingly, the ones that failed have been the better end tools like Dewalt drills. I think Dewalt is poor quality these days and Milwaukee seem to be the premier brand. I am thinking of changing my tag to MilwaukeeTalkie. It amazes me how many views that some channels get with numbers far in excess of main stream TV channels.

I have read that DeWalt has gone downhill while Milwaukee are the premier brand but I think this only to do with customer service. I still think DeWalt are a premier brand but their customer service has been outsourced to the Philippines. It's murder trying to get something repaired.

I don't own any Milwaukee tools but loads of DeWalt and they've been spot on apart from my DHS780 mitre saw that packed up recently. What a hoo ha I had trying to get it repaired. But once I finally got through to DeWalt UK it was plain sailing. They damaged part of the saw in return transit but quickly sent me a new part.

My 54v Flexivolt SDS hasn't missed a beat in 5yrs and I use it regularly.

DeWalt have improved massively in the last couple of years.

Hilti are good but ridiculously expensive and their cordless range isn't worth the money they charge.

I have Milwaukee and they're very good but some annoying faults and tbh overpriced now

Metabo and Bosch are both very very good and I would have probably moved to Bosch if they did the full range of tools that I need

Festool are again superb but expensive in the same way as Rolls Royce are

Makita aren't what they were but still a decent choice

If I was DIY I would honestly go for Ryobi. For prosumer level Hikoki are very hard to beat for the price

I've seen a few of Dean Doherty's videos on YouTube. It's crazy how some supposedly top-notch power tools can have shoddy parts. I remember that Milwaukee video he did, and he had some good things to say about Skil. Quality can vary so much even in well-known brands.
