Is it normal to have a connector (if it is that) which can be seen in my photo on a straight piece of pipework?
Thank you very much everyone for all your advice.

The heating circuit water being pumped will pressurise and flow back to the hot water tank circuit. I hope you get it sorted.

When turning the cylinder thermostat dial it clicks at approx 30 degrees but it's obvious the temperature from the tap is much higher than this.

The original installer has called in a new company to look at the issues.
Fingers crossed a fresh pair of eyes will see something!

The cause of the problem with the new heating has potentially been found.
it appears the roof has been leaking (possibly around the chimney) onto the Hive.

This is a nightmare.
Roofer has been out and is insistent there isn't a leak.
Plumber is insistent there is.

That seems highly unlikely to me, the symptoms you describe couldn't be caused by water ingress into the hive, apart from anything else the fuse would blow.sanitygone wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 2:10 pm it appears the roof has been leaking (possibly around the chimney) onto the Hive.
Given the new boiler location (in the loft) can you confirm where the new flue exits ? Roof or gable end ?

I don't know why I didn't think of the fuse blowing, or the RCD tripping.
New flue exits through a lead slate. I've been told by the engineer the leak is higher than this.

Good news, the heating has been sorted out at long last.
I tried to get a new contractor to sort it out but all of them were booked up until middle of January at the earliest so I had to go with the new company the original contractor arranged.
They fitted a new valve in the airing cupboard as there was a blockage where the old pipework had been used to connect upstairs to downstairs.

Good news, we were on the right track about a blockage then. It is so hard to find issues like this but thankfully now it is all sorted. The alleged roof leak and Hive were a red herring then?
