SDS chuck issues

Post by ozebob17 »

I'm on my second SDS hammer drill, the new one has the same issue of the balls coming out the end bending the circlip on the way. I thought I may put in the tool, the balls and then putting a worm drive clamp on the shaft to hold the balls. Being retired I don't use this heavy thing very often, I was going to drive some stakes into the ground on hammer only. The machine is 2000w so it would do it quick. Any feed back on these SDS chucks would be helpful :dunno:

I do not think we can help you as your are in Australia. We would simply go to Screwfix and buy a new SDS for £70. Sorry

Do you lube the drill bit every time you use the machine before you insert the bit into the chuck ?
I always put a smear of grease on the drill bit before inserting into the chuck , it stops the drill bit from getting stuck in the chuck and eliminating a lot of problems.

I never remember to do that Mike and I had trouble getting the bit out the last time I used my SDS. I must get some grease in my chuck and also the gearbox. It has a cover to allow you access to the gears.
