Duke of Edinburgh Gold

Post by dewaltdisney »

My grandson has just finished his DoE Gold expedition in the Peak District over the last week. The family have just picked him up to come home and he rang us on the way. He said it was tough and it was very cold at night in their tent but he and his friend who did it together really enjoyed the last seven days. They had no communication for a week with only a very basic phone supplied for emergencies. I am so pleased that he has done it as the whole of the DoE process is character building and sets kids on the right path for life. He is now looking forward to a hot shower and to sleep in his own bed tonight. He deserves his award when he goes to Buckingham Palace later in the year.

The closest I got to an expedition at his age was a football tour to Antwerp, that was gold for me

I think it is still four but they did three days training first. All in it was a tough week but him and his best school friend companion said they enjoyed the challenge

Ahh ok. We didn't get any training first but we had been on several practice trips before the final expedition.
