Kitchen Tap

Post by newdud »

I assume these tapes all std size in terms of width , I measured this one and it seems to be 180mm from center to center

Also, the tap connector are they likely to be 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch and do I have to take account of that when buying the new tap ?
I would also like to change the washer on the connector

I assume a general diy er can do this job ? As in change the tap on the sink. I will of course shut off the hot and cold first

Kitchen Tap

It should be straight forward but sink tap nuts can be difficult to get to and remove in a confined space. A fall back is that it can be a whole lot easier to take the sink top off by undoing the worktop to sink clamps, a philips screw, and running a blade around. The tap swap is then dead easy sink out, you can then put a fresh seal on the sink when you refit. Refit the sink and flexi feeds and done. Hopefully the nuts are easy with a basin wrench to avoid this.

The the plastic nuts are quite easy to get to , I can reach them with my hands and if needed I can almost undo them with a adjustable spanner, I will be using a proper tool.
The taps has been there for a long time am I going to have issue backing out the plastic nut due to rust etc on the shaft bit ? :dunno:

I assume once I have managed to remove the tap , re-sit a new one with plumbers putty ?

They looked metal in the photo, clean and WD40 the thread just in case. The taps usually have a rubber gasket to avoid gunk. Good luck and don't join the ramks of the strained back

I assume I can use one these to undo the nut at the bottom of the sink holding the tap in place

Should be okay, I have one of these, it flips to grip in both directions https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Basin-W ... m/p/500535 The box spanners can fit in a tighter spot but the depth of the bowl can impede the tommy bar.
