What's the best method to reattach tiles?

Post by Argyll »

What's the best way to reattach tiles to a step? Some tiles have came away presumably during a frost.

I'm more looking at a primer and some form of adhesive rather than sand and cement.

I have had to do this before.
What I did was:
1. Scrub off any flakey parts/dust with a wire brush. If your tiles have adhesive on the back (like mine did) you can try and carefully remove that with an angle grinder
2. prime both the tile and cement with SBR+ (it has instructions on how to use it
3. Use an external tile adhesive. You can get ones that set quickly, and some that dont.

I wouldn't/didn't use sand/cement.

Thanks mate. I might have to use external tile adhesive but was more looking at something I can use from a silicone gun. I don't have any of those serrated tile trowels. So some adhesive from a silicone gun would be ideal.

I was thinking CT1 or BT1

CT1 is excellent. I have used that as well. I can't remember if it was for tiles or not, but I do remember that once it set, it was very strong indeed. I do remember I had issues with dust and the initial grab - so just make sure you remove the dust etc to get the grab.

CT1 is definitely a good option too, quicker as well. Also, cheaper if you don't already have the SBR, tool, and adhesive.

Good luck! let us know how you get on

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

It is excellently good. Or goodly excellent, whichever you prefer :-)

I remember where I used it last: I glued short, wooden battens to victorian bricks in order to nail skirting boards to it. Worked a treat. The only ones that came loose was where the brick itself had failed!
