It's a gas man

Post by dewaltdisney »

I have been keeping an eye on the future of gas. One thing that interested me was the work going into renewing gas mains, it seemed that this was everywhere as I seemed to be constantly held up by temporary traffic lights. The stacks of yellow pipes indicated this was gas pipe renewal. Further investigation showed that there is a quiet development of moving into natural gas being mixed with hydrogen in various percentages. I read yesterday about a mains test see https://www.energylivenews.com/2024/07/ ... -hydrogen/ So I would hold off buying a heat pump, I saw an interesting YT video on Worcester Bosch who have already developed a boiler that can run on pure hydrogen. I noticed also that Toyota is really going for hydrogen fuel cells for cars. It all makes a bot more sense now.

its worth noting
hydrogen is produced[seperated]using expensive electricity so unless the hydrogen can be converted with 75% reduced price electricity [overnight or overproduction on a windy day] it will be far more expensive

It is not as simple as that BA, there are many ways to produce Hydrogen and this might be a good read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen_production Of course there are studies going on to find other ways to produce it in volume without harmful emissions. Electricity production is hardly clean at the moment.

i understand hydrogen is a by-product and virtually free at the moment as its unwanted waste product
the railway was looking at it as was the bus industry and off course the motor industry any one avenue would mop up the spare and require extra production hence the problems with the rail trials and the bus trials ---thanks for the link will have a look :thumbright:
