If the Conservatives had cancelled the Winter Fuel Allowance there would have been mass protests. I can get by without it but plenty of pensioners cannot. More to come.

I think we have to accept that there are certain things labour can change and get a free pass on. Its for the good of the country so i hope they do sort out welfare and healthcare to some extent although i totally see where you are coming from.

to be fair a single pensioner will get help iff his/her pension is below £218 a week
struggling pensioners should claim pension credits even iff its only £5 a week as it is a gateway benefit and can help with allsorts like housing help council tax help energy grants only open to someone on any benefit

"Your income

When you apply for Pension Credit your income is calculated. If you have a partner, your income is calculated together.

Pension Credit tops up:

your weekly income to £218.15 if you’re single
your joint weekly income to £332.95 if you have a partner"

Yes, I know that, but many people are just above that threshold and they will miss the help. It is a kick in the teeth for a lot of people and there will be more of this like taxing state pensions. If you have been thrifty for your old age you get nothing If you have done little to support yourself in life you get the most. Typical Labour. How long before all the strikes start as a result of them caving into the militant Doctors with a 20% rise to buy them off? Soon be back to the 1970s Time to buy a petrol generator
