Hello,
I’m trying to replace all my manual radiator valves with TRV ones. Got all radiators done except for one stubborn one.
The insert which goes into the radiator end has a different fitting to the 15mm on the TRV valve. I’ve managed to remove radiator inserts from all the other radiators, but no matter how I try, I cannot remove one of them. At first I thought it’s welded in somehow, but it has the hexagonal opening for a radiator wrench to go in, and I can see a visible thread on the outside of the insert, but I cannot get the thing out.
I have tried lots of things, WD40, blowtorch, taking any paint off etc but nothing budges.
Would anyone have any ideas on how this could be removed so I can insert the TRV’s 15mm one? (And am I actually doing the right thing in trying to remove it?) I have included a photo of the issue. Alternatively is there some sort of fitting which can go between the existing insert and the 15mm end of the TRV to avoid removing it?
Thanks very much for your help.

Use the Hex key on the inside and a bar to extend it brute force will do it!
Always worth trying holding the key with a pair of grips to take up play and then a sharp blow with a hammer to shift it anticlockwise.

Hi Toolbox,
Thanks very much for getting back to me - I inserted the hex key and whacked it a few times with a lump hammer - that did the trick!! It was in there good!!
Thanks again for your help!! Much appreciated!
