Worth a watch

We are selective when we watch Who Do You Think You Are as the BBC tends to revel in Empire bashing and the slavery roots for anyone of a dark complexion. We have watched three of the current series and we saw last week's episode on catch up which featured Olly Murs. It was probably one of the most interesting episodes I have seen as he traces his family which hails from Riga. It is a fascinating story and there is a load of history. Well worth a watch as it is rare for this series to have an interesting story.

We watched a new BBC series Apples Never Fall. The BBC must have outbid the streamers for this series as it is not the usual BBC woke b*llocks. It stars Sam Neil and Annette Benning and it really is a mystery with lots of clues that take you to suspect various scenarios but then changes again. Set in Florida but filmed in Queensland Oz it captures the feel well. We watched two episodes we were so hooked. Worth a watch.

When my son was young he was well into the WWE wrestling. I remember having to pay extra for him to watch the special Wrestlemania events and I quite enjoyed it too. When I saw a new Netflix documentary series about Vince MacMhaon the man behind it I thought it might be interesting. We watched the first episode last night and it is great viewing. Do give it a go regardless of your feelings about wrestling it is great entertainment.

An old series I came across on YouTube called The Camomile Lawn. I recall enjoying it back in 1992 and although this is not the best quality it is still watchable. We saw episode one last night and enjoyed it. It is set during the last summer before WW2 and follows a number of characters from the same extended family. It captures the period well with no woke bolllocks. I just found it is on C4 so I will check that our for further episodes.

We also started watching Joan on ITV. This is a true story set in the 80s about a female jewel thief. Episode one captured us as it is well done. Worth a watch.

Yes, we are well into that series, very good. Liev Schrieber looks like a walking armpit.

Finished The Perfect Couple last night, it was a very good series and well worth a watch. I never guessed the end and it unravelled to a logical conclusion. Well worth a watch.

We watched two good documentaries last night, both quite chilling in their own way. The first on ITV was about the recently lost superyacht Bayesian The Sinking of a Superyacht: How Safe is Your Voyage? It was very well done and explained a lot. It was harrowing I have to say. The second was on BBC called The Search for Nicola Bulley. The family gave their side after the press and TV hounded them and there was all sorts of wicked speculation on the internet. Some of these idiots are put to shame. A very sad story.

Both are worth a watch

As we have been stuck indoors with a bad cold each (probably from the plane last week) I have been lolling around I decided to watch a new Amazon film that Mrs D would not like. It is called Field Post and it was of interest me as my father fought through the Courland Pocket which is a feature of this German perspective film. It is not all battle sequences as it shows life in a combat group fighting a rear guard action. It is extremely accurate and only differs from his experience as he was evacuated on a ship back to Germany during the last months of the war where his unit surrendered to the Yanks right at the end of the war. This is a good story well played out in German with English subs. Not everyone's cup of tea but if you like historical accuracy then this is a good watch.

We watched a new 2024 Amazon film called Killer Heat set in Crete. It is actually a very clever story that keeps you guessing to the end. The setting in Crete adds to it as it is a good backdrop. Worth a watch

Mrs D wanted to watch a BBC series called Showtrial which is a story about a climate activist who a policeman allegedly kills. I said it would be typical BBC woke rubbish knocking all authority (which it is to some extent) but it is seen from the accused's perspective and there are threads of doubt as to his guilt appearing. Lots of well depicted idiots throughout so far. Worth a watch.

Back in the 70s we enjoyed Tales of the Unexpected by Roald Dahl on ITV. It was a low-budget series but actually very entertaining, far better than most of the shite on broadcast TV today. I noticed Amazon Prime had put the series on so we have watched a couple. I have to say that they are a good watch, simple, good story twists, and very watchable. So instead of suffering Stacy Soloman's Turn Your Life Around tonight, try TotU instead.
