Following on from dwd’s nautical recommendation I watch The Hunt for Lady Olive and the German Submarine shown on BBC4 last week. This was the story of a Q ship and a German Uboat that fought and reportedly sank each other in 1917 near the channel isles . Took a fair bit of time to locate the wrecks and find a few others along the way . Interesting and worth a look of naval history is your thing .

We finished watching the Camomile Lawn by streaming it on C4 online. This is a wonderful 1992 drama series not impeded by today's limp wristed attitudes and it follows a number of characters as they move through WW2 together. It is a lesson of how to do drama that today's half-wit producers and actors should watch and learn from. They will not of course. One to watch.

I have just watched 2 episodes of series 2 of Tulsa King on Paramount+, I thought it might be a bit lame but it is off to a good start so far. Taylor Sheridan stuff usually is good. I am awaiting the return of Yellowstone in November too.

As we have been stuck indoors with a bad cold each (probably from the plane last week) I have been lolling around I decided to watch a new Amazon film that Mrs D would not like. It is called Field Post and it was of interest me as my father fought through the Courland Pocket which is a feature of this German perspective film. It is not all battle sequences as it shows life in a combat group fighting a rear guard action. It is extremely accurate and only differs from his experience as he was evacuated on a ship back to Germany during the last months of the war where his unit surrendered to the Yanks right at the end of the war. This is a good story well played out in German with English subs. Not everyone's cup of tea but if you like historical accuracy then this is a good watch.

I watch a lot of documentaries on YouTube. I watched one in Africa where the kids have to walk 20 miles to and from school everyday. The biggest threats are the elephants. Lions will normally leave them alone. The just walk right through the plains of Africa. The get one meal a day and that's at school.

I used to walk about a kilometre to primary school. Now on Facebook you hear Karens going off on a tangent because there child doesn't qualify for a bus pass so they need to drive them 500m to school!

Yes, he came to the UK as a POW and could not go back home as the Russians would have killed him. He met my mum and they clicked and had me and my sister, he was naturalised in 1962. In the war, he was a Panzergenadier and drove a Tiger in the main. Considering what he went through he lived well to 83, I would have liked him to be around longer. He did well for himself as he was skilled and worked hard. My auntie Frieda was rounded up by the Russians and spent 4 years in a Siberian coal mine. I have always detested the Russians, their actions are the same today in Ukraine as they were back then. I still correspond every week to one of our German relatives.

While the wife has been away I’ve had control of the telly and this week I’ve watched The Turkish Detective and have enjoyed it . Basically a Turkish born detective who came to Britain as a child returns to Istanbul partly as a way to get to the people responsible for an attack on his girlfriend. Strange mix of English and Turkish spoken but watchable .

I saw that but got put off by the synopsis. A new Sky Atlantic series called Sweetpea started last night. It begins by showing this poor girl suffering setback after setback, and the first episode ends devastatingly. A good story unfolding that kept us focused. Worth a watch, not for limpwrists.

Yes I wasn’t captured by the synopsis either but ended up catching part of an episode . I’ll be watching the last episode tonight , I do have a feeling it will be setting up for another series as it seems there isn’t enough time to wrap it up . Still I’d watch another series.

I started Diana Citadel on Amazon tonight, Mrs D was sniffy so I traded her for a Big Brother episode. This is a follow-on series from the first which was quite good. This series is a bit hard to get into but there is quite a bit of action. I will stick with it as they spent fortunes on the production I read.

We watched the new series of A House Through Time on BBC. The presenter David Olusoga is an insufferable lefty prick, he started on his slavery thing while appearing in a seque on the the late Queen's funeral on BBC, he just cannot leave it alone. This HTT series examines a building in London and also one in Berlin from the 20s onwards. It is very interesting but David manages to find a black man from Togo who suffered under the Nazi regime as well as the Jewish residents. I suppose I should have expected it really. In the main it is very interesting but the black bit is unnecessary, it is the Jews who suffered.

BBC The Parole Board is good viewing in many ways. In this latest episode, there is a young woman who committed murder at 16. Her story shows how a difficult upbringing leads her down the wrong pathways. During her prison sentence, she has been well-focused and she handles herself really well at her parole board hearing. The second case concerns a right drug-addled dolt who despite numerous chances and previous paroles has been brought straight back to prison for reoffending. I sometimes worry that these parole boards look like they have the naivete of an American wrestling referee but in the main they they get it right.
