The few times I have used them, they were good and allowed me see the wire path.

If the wall hasn't been wallpapered, you should be able to see where the plaster has been cut out anf filled in, even if it has been sanded really well there would be a slight texture difference. This by no means should be your only evidence to go on, it should be corroborated with the live wire detector.
Sounds good, does that device detect water pipes as well as electrical wires?

Some of those detector devices "claim" to be able to detect electric cables, wooden studs and copper water cables.

However, in my experience they are very hit and miss, sometimes giving false results.

@_Chris_ You are asking TigerUK a question? If you click on his name you will see his "about info" That shows he was last active over a year ago (He last posted almost 2 years ago) so I doubt he will ever reply to you
In reply to your question, see what the owner of this website says

Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

Inept people use the QUOTE BUTTON instead of the QUICK REPLY section :-)

I split this from a 3 year old thread and changed the title.

Yep, I did see that, but sometimes they do reply.

Thanks for the link. I'll take a look.
