We watched Dan Snow's documentary The Colosseum: The Arena of Death on C5 last night. I already know much of the history of the Colosseum, and I have visited, but this actually gave me some history I did not know and it was most interesting. Even Mrs D found it a good watch.

We are up to episode 7 of Jackal, and the only weak link (actors) are the MI6 team, who are most unconvincing and were poor casting, as I said in an earlier post. Eddy Redmayne plays the Jackal well, and you almost hope he is going to succeed in his kills and ace the MI6 team and the Spanish relatives as a bonus. I hope they leave him alive for series 2.

We also watched the second Yellowstone episode which as always is excellent and it is brewing up for some well deserved retribution.

We watched Joy a film on Netflix. It is about the story of the in vitro fertilisation procedure pioneered by Robert Edwards, Jean Purdy, and Patrick Steptoe. You might expect it to be a bit dry but it is a wonderful story well told in this drama. Well worth a watch.

We watched the latest episode of C4's 24 Hours in Police Custody. This series shows the Police have a limited time to hold someone without charge and the investigation behind the arrest. Quite often, good cameras off-twatting of the suspect would work wonders, but I can only dream. This episode featured an idiot making hoax calls that had a terrible effect on the victims. He was bang to rights with the evidence police found, which was great to see. It's worth a watch.

We saw the first episode of a new legal type drama called Matlock on Sky Witness. Kathy Bates stars in this unusual drama that is very slick and enjoyable. We also watched a new series on Netflix called The Inside Man. Ted Danson is the lead in this gentle drama where he goes undercover in an old peoples home to solve a theft. In both of these series, the acting is superb and shows how these experienced actors make it work. Both worth a watch

Although it is often quite sad Cause of Death on C5 is interesting viewing. It follows the work of a Coroners Office establishing causes of death where needed. Last night's episode showed the death of a 72 year old man who died snorkelling in the sea while on holiday in Egypt. It showed the difficulty of death abroad and the repatriation process that requires embalming before the body can be taken on board an aircraft. I felt desperately sorry for his widow who had to cope with all the trauma of the sudden death of her partner in Egypt. Worth a watch.

We finished Murder Mindfully on Netflix. A German series it is actually darkly amusing. The lead actor is good and it is a clever story with gory scenes. Worth a Watch.

We watched a C4 documentary about the 2004 Tsunami that was broadcast on November 17th. There were two episodes, which we watched. My memory of the event was poor, and this documentary covered it all very well. It was quite harrowing seeing the destruction and loss of life, and the survivors who told their stories showed, sadly, that when your number is up, it's up. It's worth a watch, but it's not great viewing on balance.

Watched that last night , well the first one anyway. I’d seen a couple of documentaries on the subject so was to a degree expecting a rehash of what had gone before but there was footage and interviews with survivors that I hadn’t seen before. As you say perhaps not great or easy viewing , Mrs G’s comment was “ well this is cheery to watch” …

Last night's viewing was Landman, Lincoln Lawyer, Yellowstone, and Jackal. I am particularly enjoying Landman which is a bit different and Yellowstone which was as good as ever. Both of these are Taylor Sheridan series and his stuff eclipses anything else on in my opinion. I enjoy Jackal but it loses all credibility with the MI6 actors who are not very good, unrealistic, and unbelievable. The lead's family is superfluous and unnecessary to the story and they are poor actors as well. This could have been so much better.

I watched another episode of Lioness on Paramount+, which I am steadily working through as I did not want to binge the series. It is very well done and I have enjoyed it, it is another Taylor Sheridan creation. Every so often a script snippet will stick in my head as it resonates. Last night a line was ' 5% of the world are Saints, 5% are Evil and the rest are sheep who follow who strongest' Thinking about this it is true in so many circumstances now and in the past. Have a think about it for a minute. Worth a watch.

We watched Kaleb on Prime tonight. Kaleb is a farm contractor who has become a celebrity in his own right through appearing on Clarksons Farm as himself. This was a recording of his one-man show he has developed and it is actually quite amusing. The main issue here is that Clarksons Farm is giving a greater number of people an understanding of the difficulties in farming and Kaleb's show adds to this. It is a good watch.

I watched Why Bridges Collapse: The Baltimore Disaster on BBC. This documentary focuses on the collapse of the Baltimore Harbour Bridge, which was struck by the ship MV Dalia which had lost power. It is interesting how the engineers cleared the debris to reopen the port. The task was incredibly difficult. It is worth a watch.

We watched the new Netflix series Back Doves, which launched on Netflix yesterday. It is a good story, and unlikely star Kiera Knightley plays her role well. Ben Withenshaw plays a good part if you ignore the unnecessary homosexual scenes. Sarah Lancashire is also in it. It has started well. I would say this is a series to watch.
