I need to replace a pir on an outside light that is no longer functioning.
I provide the cabling into the sensor down the outside of the wall, so was using a corner Sensor to provide a gap to allow the cable to go in the rear of the sensor.
Is there a simpler way to get rear access to a sensor?
I was going to use a Steinel pir but I can't get the corner unit.
What other brands of pir sensor are recommended and any ideas on how to space the unit to get a cable into the rear? The ones I've used so far so not seen to provide spacers or knockouts.

Decent PIR Sensor Brand

If you must, mount the PIR on an adaptable box Click me use a stuffing gland for the cable Click me Put a small amount of silicone sealant around the hole for the cable to go into the sensor (which is mounted on the lid) You could then use a couple of stuffing glands as spacers to allow you to mount the box on the corner. (You will also need a couple of long screws)
As for which brand of PIR, you choose. I have found over the years the quality has really gone down hill on all of them, I am now using a smart timer for all my external stuff.
You can get cheaper / smaller adaptable boxes, but the screws tend to rust over time and you can never undo them. This box has plastic bolts, never had a problem with them.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

How does your smart timer activate?
Is there any decent brands now? Steinel? Brennenstuhl?
I just want to get this working now for them over the remainder of the winter.

My smart timer runs to a schedule, or I can just press a virtual button on my phone, or ask Alexa to turn them on.
I had several external PIRs set up. As to be expected, after around 8 years they started to fail. (The lens became brittle and eventually split and or cracked letting in rain) No problem, I thought, get some more, change them as and when they are totally useless. In short when ever I changed one it would activate when nothing near it, or wouldn't switch the load off once it started or would not switch on in the first place. This was over a few months, I tried various brands, and I decided that enough was enough, removed all of them and put in a sonoff unit to switch the supply to everything. Sonoff unit £5 External mains switching PIR £20 each. No contest for me.
You may be ok, I like the idea of them, but I now don't have things coming on when they should be off.

No.
I am saying the external use PIRs I had failed, and in the end I gave up looking for a good one as it was costing me too much, but you may have better luck.
