70mm internal partition
Looked around a house today and the partition walls were 70mm overall. Is from the early 90s. Am I right in thinking these are a fermacell type product? How is the wiring done in these? They are wallpapered atm do they usually have a skim finish or are they just dry lined tape and filled?

It is probably a metal stud partition which was common for non-load-bearing partition walls. Made up of I profile studs that had holes in for electric wiring, the plasterboard faces are screwed on as usual.

I've not come across tin in domestic situations before. I have come across the corrugated slabs though. What are they called is it fermacell? 70mm finish leaves a very thin stud if you take 2x plasterboard from each face.

From memory, the smallest Knauf studs were 50mm so with 12.5mm facings you get 75mm wall. I have seen either partitions made up using a sandwich of three plasterboards stuck together or these honeycomb-centred partition panels https://workplaceinteriorshop.co.uk/pro ... artitions/. These walls were all designed to be a cheap construction and to minimise loss of room space. It would be difficult to work out unless you drill a small inspection hole.

Thin internal walls I've come across have consisted of two types other than metal studding. There is the eggbox type described above which I seem to recall being called paramount board. I seem to recall on the one time I came across it a light switch cable had been poked through from above. Whether that is the correct way to do that I can't say. The other type of thin walling was Stramin board which is effectively compressed straw covered in paper and skimmed. Not sure how cables were run in those. We had to remove some in a bathroom which had been tiled , failed grout and the straw had acted like a sponge.

It's more likely to be Paramount Partitioning board. Head and sole plate fitted and the boards slid on from an open end, with a stud fitted between the two upright edges.

Yes I'd agree , not that I've got huge amounts of experience of it in domestic installations . I have encountered metal stud in houses so I suppose there's a chance. I suppose the question would be as to what oz intends to do , I'm assuming that the intention is electrical work seeing as how it was brought up in the original post.

Thanks for the name I will look that up. I am just trying to find out more about it. If it is usually skimmed or just tape and filled? This house had paper on most of the walls so would need removing or lining paper whichever is possible.
