3 gang-2 way switch

Post by seahawk72 »

all
Am replacing 3 gang 2 way light switch in hallway---both the outside switches are 2 way (one for hall and one for landing)-the middle switch is a one way for the outside lantern/light.

" attachments are the old switch and one is the new one
Unsure what the yellow wires are or where everything goes basically--am I right that the new one should be wired as COM and an L" for each of the 2 way lights with a COM and L1 for the outside 1 way switch, but which wires are which ?--and whats the significance of that small loop between A2 and the top middle terminal
I'm a bit stuck

thanks

3 gang-2 way switch

No.
The middle switch you describe is correct.
Two way switching uses 3 wires/switch
The small loop is a live feed.

I suggest you invest in a very good marker pen and mark each wire (put a number on it or rings) Then take another clear in focus picture.*and check its in focus) So if it goes pete tong, you can put it back
I can't see what is in the last top terminal your picture is not that good.

Your new switch is like V V V
The bottom of the v is com, the top is L1 and L2

Your old switch is VMV (push the letters closer)
It is 3 2 way switches top to tail
and being as you know a 2 way switch on its own is V it should not take long for you to figure it out, but do take those pictures
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
