Wago or Ideal lever connectors
I've been using Wago lever connectors for a while now and have just noticed a rival brand, Ideal, being sold on Screwfix and Toolstation. The Wago brand is usually around double the price of Ideal. I bought some Ideal 2 gang connectors to have a closer look at them. Two main differences for me apart from the colour, Wago levers close towards the wire and Ideal away from the wire. The Wago are easier to see if the wire is fully home.
Any views on either or both? Are Wagos really worth double the price?

If they both meet the same legal specifications then save the money.
WAGO were a innovation but like many things being first usually means being overly complex and overly expensive. Once your design is out there clever people will find a way to improve it, simplify it and make it cheaper.

Tried Ideal and found them of a much lower quality than Wago. Buy once, buy wisely

from my understanding, wagos are type approved because they are spring-loaded and don't need access for maintenance
does this apply to the other ones ??

Gut feeling mainly. I just prefer the wagos and in the overall scheme of things saving a few pence on a job - not my style. Do it once, do it properly

Above are my opinions Below is my signature.
Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
If gloom had a voice, it would be me.

Like most good ideas, someone invents it, then later a different someone makes a similar version but cheaper, I don't have the facility to put either under a load test, but if they were not as good as claimed they would not be sold as they are?
I do find the wago lever easier to operate (Probably because it's bigger) They both appear to be well made, but I guess only time will tell.
Just be careful you don't grab one of the following instead.

I've used both and think they're both good. I'm not an electrician but dabble in the odd socket swap etc.
To be fair I normally buy the ideal ones because they're cheaper but I am Scottish
