Adhesive wet and crumbly (Tiles 'fall' off)

Post by anderino »

I've clearly done something wrong....

I laid 10 tiles on the wall last week, everything went fine, until I started poking around. I could see if I pressed one slightly it moved so I put a screw driver under one and it popped off with VERY minimal pressure.

When the tiles came off the adhesive stayed on the walls and has been fairly difficult to get off. Its quite crumbly though.

I left them 5 days, should I have left them longer before proding?

I used adhesive from a tub

I want to tile them back on but fear this will happen again!

Many Thanks

Are the tiles in a very wet area?

Was the tile adhesive waterproof?

Thanks for your reply.

They are in the bathroom but it hasnt been used as a bathroom properly yet so no water or steam.

Says 'shower proof', the guy in the shop said this is the one to use for the bathroom, its Mepai Mapestik.

I'd try a different adhesive if I was you as it looks like there could be something wrong with the adhesive that you have. Normally they should be well fixed after about 24 hours.

The term showerproof can also be a bit misleading as that does not necessarily mean that it is waterproof.

Thanks, what adhesive do you recommend?

Also the walls are plastered over brick, do you recommend I seal with anything?

It's not suitable for Pocelain tiles, that's why they 'fell' off.

It wasn't the adhesives fault but the application.

You needed Mapei KERAQUICK.

Mapei is also used by professional tilers
