Hi
I have halogen ceiling downlights that have a white ring and I would like to replace them with Chrome fittings. Is this an easy job and do you know anywhere you can just buy the rings rather than the packs that include light bulbs etc

in which case, people tend to leave kitchen lights on a long time. if it was the bathroom i would say no to CFL lamps as they take 30 odd seconds to reach full brightness.
try 11Watt CFL lamps. it is more of a white light but again, has a simlar lighting effect to a fluorescent light. the light tends to bounce of surfaces and reduces shadowing unlike halogen lamps.
the cost of buying them is high compared to halogen but the running cost is massively cheaper. the heat factor alone is fantastic. halogens are so hot you can light cigarettes off them but you can hold a CFL lamps when it has been on for a while.
you get the spotlight look with the cheapness of running a fluorescent light
